East Lothian (Scottish Parliament Constituency) - Constituency Boundaries and Council Area

Constituency Boundaries and Council Area

The East Lothian constituency was created at the same time as the Scottish Parliament, in 1999, with the name and boundaries of an existing Westminster constituency. In 2005, however, Scottish Westminster (House of Commons) constituencies were mostly replaced with new constituencies.

The Holyrood constituency covers most of the East Lothian council area. A western (Musselburgh) portion of the council area is covered by the Edinburgh East and Musselburgh constituency, which also covers an eastern portion of the City of Edinburgh council area.

Edinburgh East and Musselburgh is within the Lothians electoral region.

Famous quotes containing the words constituency, boundaries, council and/or area:

My constituency is the desperate, the damned, the disinherited, the disrespected and the despised.
    Jesse Jackson (b. 1941)

We love to overlook the boundaries which we do not wish to pass.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

Daughter to that good Earl, once President
Of England’s Council and her Treasury,
Who lived in both, unstain’d with gold or fee,
And left them both, more in himself content.

Till the sad breaking of that Parliament
Broke him, as that dishonest victory
    At Chaeronea, fatal to liberty,
Kill’d with report that old man eloquent;—
    John Milton (1608–1674)

I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids
    Sprouting despondently at area gates.
