General Information
East Bay High School is located in Gibsonton. It generally attracts students from Apollo Beach, Gibsonton, and Riverview, however it once hosted students from as far south as Ruskin and Sun City to as far north as the Clair-mel and Progress Village subdivisions.
The school surpasses its 1,700 student capacity on a regular basis. In the 2005-2006 school year, the school held around 2,300 students. With the opening of two new high schools--Spoto High School and Earl J. Lennard High School—in 2006, the school's population since then holds steady at around 2,000 students.
The school received a grade of "A" from Florida Department of Education for the first time in its history in 2009-2010 under the leadership of principal Sharon Morris. It received a grade of "B" for the 2010-2011 school year, also the first time in the school's history.
Maria Gsell became principal in January 2012.
East Bay's Athletic Director is Scot Tipton.
Former East Bay wrestling coach Tom Lota was a 2006 inductee into the Florida Wrestling Hall of Fame. In 2011, the school gymnasium was named after him.
