Dwyer Middle School - Solar Panels

Solar Panels

In 2011, a controversy arose over the placement of solar panels on the school's front lawn. Students, parents and community members protested the placement. Attorney Gloria Allred gave her support for the cause. The school district indicated that the placement would not be effective elsewhere and that cost savings would be $75,000 per year. Ultimately the solar panels were installed on the front lawn of the school.

Famous quotes containing the words solar and/or panels:

    Our civilization has decided ... that determining the guilt or innocence of men is a thing too important to be trusted to trained men.... When it wants a library catalogued, or the solar system discovered, or any trifle of that kind, it uses up its specialists. But when it wishes anything done which is really serious, it collects twelve of the ordinary men standing round. The same thing was done, if I remember right, by the Founder of Christianity.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

    He sent for lancewood to make the thills;
    The crossbars were ash, from the straightest trees;
    The panels of white-wood, that cuts like cheese,
    But lasts like iron for things like these;
    The hubs of logs from the “Settler’s ellum,”—
    Last of its timber,—they couldn’t sell ‘em,
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809–1894)
