Double Tap - History

History

Double taps are an integral part of the El Presidente combat pistol shooting drill developed by Jeff Cooper in the 1970s and published in the January/February 1979 issue of American Handgunner. Also developed in the 1970s is the Failure Drill or Mozambique Drill, developed by Jeff Cooper student Mike Rousseau. This drill is to practice a situation where a double-tap to the torso fails to stop an attacker and so there's a third shot to the head.

It has been reported that a double tap was used by US Navy SEALs from the Naval Special Warfare Development Group to kill Osama Bin Laden in his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 1, 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Free from public debt, at peace with all the world, and with no complicated interests to consult in our intercourse with foreign powers, the present may be hailed as the epoch in our history the most favorable for the settlement of those principles in our domestic policy which shall be best calculated to give stability to our Republic and secure the blessings of freedom to our citizens.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)

It is my conviction that women are the natural orators of the race.
Eliza Archard Connor, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 9, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
