Diving Suit - Atmospheric Diving Suits

Atmospheric Diving Suits

An atmospheric diving suit is a small one-man articulated submersible of anthropomorphic form which resembles a suit of armour, with elaborate pressure joints to allow articulation while maintaining an internal pressure of one atmosphere. These can be used for very deep dives for long periods without the need for decompression, and eliminate the majority of physiological dangers associated with deep diving. Divers do not even need to be skilled swimmers. Mobility and dexterity are usually restricted by mechanical constraints, and the ergonomics of movement are problematic.

Famous quotes containing the words atmospheric, diving and/or suits:

Nor has science sufficient humanity, so long as the naturalist overlooks the wonderful congruity which subsists between man and the world; of which he is lord, not because he is the most subtile inhabitant, but because he is its head and heart, and finds something of himself in every great and small thing, in every mountain stratum, in every new law of color, fact of astronomy, or atmospheric influence which observation or analysis lay open.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    all the fine
Points of diving feet together toes pointed hands shaped right
To insert her into water like a needle
    James Dickey (b. 1923)

They are actions that a man might play,
But I have that within which passes show,
These but the trappings and the suits of woe.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
