Deron Miller - Band History

Band History

In 1994 Miller met future bandmate Jess Margera. Miller was in the process of breaking up with his band This End Up, and Margera had told Miller that he could play drums. Miller and Margera formed the band Foreign Objects. After releasing a 5-Track EP, Miller and Margera started a new band called oiL. The band went to a studio to record a demo when they met Chad I. Ginsburg. After hearing a demo of Disengage The Simulator, Ginsberg immediately wanted to be part of the band.

The band name "Camp Kill Yourself" was thought up by Miller during a conservation with his fellow band members. Miller mentioned the idea of having a "horror movie title" rather than a typical "Band name". According to Miller, most band names seemed to be similar and boring and it would be different to have a horror movie title. After some thought, the band changed its name from "oiL" to"Camp Kill Yourself" to demanded attention. The name was later changed to "CKY" which was a much easier title for fans to chant during concerts.

Miller is contributing to James Murphy's Death tribute album and initially thought of the idea of the tribute album. His four main inspirations are Chuck Schuldiner of Death, James Murphy of Death, James Hetfield of Metallica, and Paul Stanley of the band Kiss.
