Famous quotes containing the words blackest, night, brightest and/or day:

Loving in truth, and fain in verse my love to show,
That she, dear she, might take some pleasure of my pain,
Pleasure might cause her read, reading might make her know,
Knowledge might pity win, and pity grace obtain,
I sought fit words to paint the blackest face of woe:
    Sir Philip Sidney (1554–1586)

    The night is freezing fast,
    To-morrow comes December.
    —A.E. (Alfred Edward)

That now his brightest diamond is grown
Darker by far than any coalpit stone.
    Edward Taylor (1645–1729)

I look upon every day to be lost, in which I do not make a new acquaintance.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)
