Dawn Robinson

Dawn Sherrese Robinson (November 28, 1968, New London, Connecticut) is an American R&B/soul/Dance-pop singer best known for her work as a member of hit Urban/Dance-pop group, En Vogue.

Robinson was born in New London, Connecticut. Following her departure from En Vogue in 1997, Robinson joined Lucy Pearl to record the only Lucy Pearl album released to date. After touring with Lucy Pearl, Dawn claimed she found out she was out of the group upon seeing the groups final video. The song featured Robinson's vocals but with new member Joi lip syncing Robinson's part. Robinson was then signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, and gave guest vocals on The Firm's hit song "Firm Biz" which sampled Teena Marie's classic single "Square Biz." After appearing on a few soundtracks, Robinson released a solo album entitled Dawn, released by Atlantic Records on 29 January 2002. The single "Envious" received moderate airplay on radio and video outlets. According to Sister2Sister magazine, Robinson said the album "tanked" due to "poor promotion."

In 2005, Robinson returned sporadically to En Vogue who toured nationally while attempting to negotiate a new recording contract with The Firm Management for the original En Vogue. 2009 Robinson recorded and released two new songs made available on her official MySpace page, "Johnny Walker Get Up Again" and "I Like Boyz." 2010, all four members appeared on the cover of Jet magazine to promote their reunion tour, yet again failed to reach an agreement, and Robinson decided not to record on the new En Vogue album due in the fall of 2011 following their successful tour.

On September 26, 2011, Ellis, Jones & Herron without Robinson, debuted their new single "I'll Cry Later" from their upcoming album that was planned for a December release. Negotiations for the album release resulted in Maxine Jones leaving En Vogue which was discussed with Robinson on Access Hollywood nearly a year later on October 17, 2012. Robinson and Jones talked about the contract issues, poor management of En Vogue, and fueding that occurred on the social network Twitter between the four group members. On October 18, 2012 Robinson and Jones launched their new website "Heirs To The Throne." Plans for an Heirs To The Throne album and reality show are scheduled.

Famous quotes containing the words dawn and/or robinson:

Then at dawn we came down to a temperate valley,
Wet, below the snow line, smelling of vegetation,
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

Give him the darkest inch your shelf allows,
Hide him in lonely garrets, if you will,—
But his hard, human pulse is throbbing still
With the sure strength that fearless truth endows.
    —Edwin Arlington Robinson (1869–1935)
