Clinically, Dr. Sarwer is the Director of the Stunkard Weight Management Program at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2007, the Stunkard Weight Management Program opened with a mission of translating the new research findings from the Center for Weight at Eating Disorders into practice for people looking to lose weight and prevent or control obesity.

Dr. Sarwer is also actively involved in the Bariatric Surgery Program at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

There, he conducts behavioral and psychological evaluations of patients prior to surgery. He also treats individuals with eating or other psychological concerns after bariatric surgery, and provides psychotherapeutic treatment to patients who have body dysmorphic disorder or other appearance concerns.

In June 2012, Dr. Sarwer was honored by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) with the 2012 Circle of Excellence Award. The award recognizes achievement in education, research, patient care, administrative and/or public awareness in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery.
