Dark at Dawn

Dark at Dawn is a power metal band from Germany, formed in 1993. The band differs from others in the genre, mostly due to singer Thorsten Kohlrausch's rough, low-register vocals. Dark at Dawn released several independent EPs, before signing to Iron Glory records in 1999. Their label debut, Baneful Skies, was released on November 29, 1999. The line, up as of 2007, comprised Michael Lowin (bass), Thorsten Kohlrausch (voice), Torsten Sauerbrey (drums), Matthias Majkowski (guitar) and Florian Schroeder (guitar). Soon after the release of Crimson Frost (2000) Majkowski and Schroeder left the band for vocational reasons. Undeterred, the band continued to record with Sauerbrey taking over the guitar duties as well as continuing as drummer. Friends and ex-members played guitar for live performances. After signing with the AFM label, "Of Decay and Desire" was released in 2003. The next album "Dark at Dawn" was released after much delay in 2006. Shortly afterward, main songwriter Sauerbrey left the band, effectively ending Dark at Dawn after a 14-year career.

In late 2011, plans were made for a “Dark at Dawn” reunion. During 2012, drummer Torsten Sauerbrey recorded a demo at Metalsound-Studio, the songs from which were released online and as an EP in Autumn 2012. In October 2012, Dark at Dawn began touring as support band for the German, Austrian and Swiss leg of American band W.A.S.P.'s “30 Years of Thunder”-tour.

Famous quotes containing the words dark and/or dawn:

    The elaborate star-light throws a reflection
    On the dark stream,
    Till all the eddies gleam;
    And thereupon there comes that scream
    From terrified, invisible beast or bird:
    Image of poignant recollection.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    I know a little garden-close
    Set thick with lily and red rose,
    Where I would wander if I might
    From dewy dawn to dewy night,
    William Morris (1834–1896)
