Famous quotes containing the words dark, adventure, radio, shadow and/or time:

I thought I heard the dark pounding its head
On a rock, crying: Who are the dead?
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

Being human signifies, for each one of us, belonging to a class, a society, a country, a continent and a civilization; and for us European earth-dwellers, the adventure played out in the heart of the New World signifies in the first place that it was not our world and that we bear responsibility for the crime of its destruction.
    Claude Lévi-Strauss (b. 1908)

There was a girl who was running the traffic desk, and there was a woman who was on the overnight for radio as a producer, and my desk assistant was a woman. So when the world came to an end, we took over.
Marya McLaughlin, U.S. television newswoman. As quoted in Women in Television News, ch. 3, by Judith S. Gelfman (1976)

A shadow has fallen upon the scenes so lately lighted by the Allied victory.... From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent.
    Winston Churchill (1874–1965)

Every time we get near the land you get that look on your face. When a man goes to sea, he ought to give up thinking about things on shore. Land don’t want him no more. I’ve had me share of things go wrong and all come from the land. Now I’m through with the land and the land’s through with me.
    Dudley Nichols (1895–1960)
