Representative Career

In 2005, while playing for Palm Beach Currumbin High School, Boyd was selected at fullback for the Australian Schoolboys team.

In 2008, after leading the NRL try-scoring table for most of the first half of the season, Boyd was selected for the Queensland team to play New South Wales in Game 2 of the 2008 State of Origin series due to teammate Justin Hodges' suspension. He scored 2 tries on debut, both from passes from centre Greg Inglis, with Queensland winning 30-0. He was also selected for Game 3.

On 16 October 2008, Boyd was called up to the Australian 2008 World Cup squad due to teammate Justin Hodges being ruled out with a shoulder injury. He made his international debut against Papua New Guinea.

On 8 May 2009, Boyd was selected for Australia in the 2009 ANZAC Test match against New Zealand, scoring a try in Australia's 38–10 win over New Zealand.

In April 2009, Boyd was named in the preliminary 25-man squad to represent Queensland in the opening State of Origin match for 2009, making the final team for Game 1 and scoring a try. He went on to play the next 2 games in the series.

Boyd played in all 3 State of Origin matches again in 2010, scoring a try in each match to become the series' top try-scorer.

In November 2010, Boyd played fullback for Australia in their 2010 Four Nations match against New Zealand, he scored a try.

Boyd played in all 3 State of Origin matches again in 2011.

On 16 October 2011, Boyd scored 2 tries for Australia in the Test match against New Zealand at Boyd's future home ground for the Newcastle Knights, Ausgrid Stadium, Newcastle.

Boyd was selected in the Australian squad for the 2011 Four Nations tournament held in the United Kingdom. He played all 4 matches, scoring 3 tries.

In April 2012, Boyd was selected for Australia in the 2012 ANZAC Test match against New Zealand.

Boyd played in all 3 State of Origin matches again in 2012, scoring 2 tries in Game 1 and a try in Game 3.

At the end of the regular season, Boyd was selected at fullback in the 2012 Prime Minister's XIII team.
