- For the May 12 "Design a Dance" performance, viewers had voted in the weeks beforehand about what style dance they wanted (Quickstep), what song they wanted the dance to ("It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)"), and what professionals they wanted to do the dance (Mark Ballas, Lacey Schwimmer, Derek Hough, and Julianne Hough). Also, Dancing with the Stars held an online contest where viewers could submit their drawings for outfits for the performance. The winner was Rebecca Farmer from New York City. Her designs were turned into the outfits for the performers, and she won a trip to the show.

Famous quotes containing the words stars and/or dance:
“The stars are distant and unobtrusive, but bright and enduring as our fairest and most memorable experiences.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“When my old wife lived, upon
This day she was both pantler, butler, cook,
Both dame and servant, welcomed all, served all,
Would sing her song and dance her turn, now here
At upper end othe table, now ithe middle,
On his shoulder, and his, her face afire
With labor, and the thing she took to quench it
She would to each one sip.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
