Culture Shock Festival

The Culture Shock festival is held annually at SUNY Purchase College in Purchase, NY. The outdoor festival, which usually takes place in mid-April, consistently hosts a variety of musical artists from many different genres, as well as carnival rides and food vendors in a county fair-type setting. Culture Shock began in the 90's as a showcase of Purchase College Bands, but quickly grew to its current trend-setting status. Until 2004 the festival was organized by the Student Government's General Programming Coordinator, who also organized the multitude of other campus events. In 2004 the position was split into two roles. Now operated by the Major Events Coordinator, the festival continues to introduce new artists to different audiences.

Famous quotes containing the words culture, shock and/or festival:

... there are some who, believing that all is for the best in the best of possible worlds, and that to-morrow is necessarily better than to-day, may think that if culture is a good thing we shall infallibly be found to have more of it that we had a generation since; and that if we can be shown not to have more of it, it can be shown not to be worth seeking.
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)

I was not long since in a company where I wot not who of my fraternity brought news of a kind of pills, by true account, composed of a hundred and odd several ingredients; whereat we laughed very heartily, and made ourselves good sport; for what rock so hard were able to resist the shock or withstand the force of so thick and numerous a battery?
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

Marry, I cannot show it in rhyme, I have tried; I can find no rhyme to “lady” but “baby”Man innocent rhyme; for “scorn,” “horn”Ma hard rhyme; for “school,” “fool”Ma babbling rhyme; very ominous endings. No, I was not born under a rhyming planet, nor I cannot woo in festival terms.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
