Crystal Lake Central High School - History

History

Crystal Lake Central High School was founded in 1907 as Crystal Lake Community High School. It served students from Crystal Lake, Cary, and the surrounding areas of McHenry County. The school's current building opened in 1924. Prior to relocating, the school was part of the Union School campus located at what is now Husmann Elementary School. The school was renamed as Crystal Lake Central in 1978 when Crystal Lake South opened. With a student population of 1,591 for 2011-2012, Crystal Lake Central is presently the least populated of Community High School District 155's four high schools.

The school building includes many decorative terra cotta elements from American Terra Cotta (TECO)

Famous quotes containing the word history:

While the Republic has already acquired a history world-wide, America is still unsettled and unexplored. Like the English in New Holland, we live only on the shores of a continent even yet, and hardly know where the rivers come from which float our navy.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

History, as an entirety, could only exist in the eyes of an observer outside it and outside the world. History only exists, in the final analysis, for God.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Racism is an ism to which everyone in the world today is exposed; for or against, we must take sides. And the history of the future will differ according to the decision which we make.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)
