Famous quotes containing the words stages of, stages, courtly and/or love:

Phlebas the Phoenician, a fortnight dead,
Forgot the cry of gulls, and the deep sea swell
    And the profit and loss.
    A current under sea
Picked his bones in whispers. As he rose and fell
He passed the stages of his age and youth
    Entering the whirlpool.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

Whoe’er has travelled life’s dull round,
Where’er his stages may have been,
May sigh to think he still has found
The warmest welcome, at an inn.
    William Shenstone (1714–1763)

Now you courtly dames and knights,
    That study only strange delights,
Though you scorn the home-spun gray
    And revel in your rich array;
    Though your tongues dissemble deep
And can your heads from danger keep:
Yet for all your pomp and train,
    Securer lives the silly swain.
    Thomas Campion (1567–1620)

There is not enough love and goodness in the world to permit giving any of it away to imaginary beings.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
