Corinda Via South Brisbane Railway Line

The Corinda via South Brisbane railway line (also known as Tennyson line) was a suburban railway line in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It connected the Beenleigh and Ipswich Lines in peak hours, with services running all stations between Roma Street and Corinda via South Brisbane and the Tennyson Line. It connected to the Gold Coast Line at Yeerongpilly.

During times of disruption in the inner south of Brisbane, certain services could be maintained by running through this line. For example, if there was a disruption at South Brisbane, Gold Coast services could be maintained by travelling along the Corinda via South Brisbane line via the Ipswich line to Yeerongpilly, then south to Beenleigh as per normal along the Beenleigh line.

Corinda via South Brisbane line is a major freight corridor, being the main connection between western Queensland freight lines, the Port of Brisbane and the marshalling yards at Moolabin, Clapham and Acacia Ridge.

Passenger services on the line ceased in June 2011.

Famous quotes containing the words south, railway and/or line:

The South is very beautiful but its beauty makes one sad because the lives that people live here, and have lived here, are so ugly.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

This wild night, gathering the washing as if it were flowers
animal vines twisting over the line and
slapping my face lightly, soundless merriment
in the gesticulations of shirtsleeves ...
    Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
