Colour All My Days - The Record

The Record

Following the huge international success of "The NeverEnding Story", the main theme to the soundtrack for the film of the same name, in 1984, Limahl's second long playing work was almost wholly produced by Giorgio Moroder (except for a couple of tracks, by Derek Nakamoto), who already produced the former smash hit. Moroder also provided the music to 7 out of the 10 tracks making up the 1986 record, while the singer himself wrote all but one of the lyrics (in fact, he also co-wrote 2 songs as for the music, and played keyboard on two other tracks).

The only track he did not actually collaborate to was "Inside to Outside", the second single taken from the album, which was written by Colin Pearson and Achim Opperman (the latter also composed the music). Though this song was a complete commercial flop for Limahl (it was actually released twice, the second time in a more spirited remixed version), it would later become a big worldwide hit for dance vocalist Lady Violet. The first single, "Love In Your Eyes", was instead a minor hit for ex Kajagoogoo singer, and, by only reaching Number 80 in the UK Singles Chart, it represented his last UK single to ever chart among the first 100 positions. The song fared much better in the rest of the world, especially in continental Europe, in particular in German-speaking countries (it went to Number 28 in Germany itself), and in Italy, where, peaking at Number 22, it became his second best-selling single in that country, after the famous soundtrack; it also won a popular Italian TV program along with a few other songs by other artists. The B-side to the second single, "Shock", was a stand-out album track, which also became quite popular in Italy. The album got plenty of airplay there and, though not charting at all in the United Kingdom, was actually very successful in Spain, where a third single was released, namely the title track, "Colour All My Days". This latter song was also adapted by request in Spanish as "No Lo Pienses Más" (meaning "Don't Think About It Anymore") and released as a further single there, with the original English version on its B-side, in fact making it the fifth promotional single to be internationally released from the album. "Don't Send For Me" was released in the Netherlands as the final single from the album.

The LP/MC, generally considered as a commercial failure (at least in Great Britain and in the United States, where it also didn't chart), but highly sought-for as a collectable, was never released on CD, but the first 8 songs were digitally remastered by Disky Records for 1996 The Best of Limahl compact disc, which indeed only omits "Love Will Tear the Soul" (also B-side to the "Colour All My Days" first Spanish single) and the closing track, "For My Heart's Sake". A reduced version of this digital compilation was out in 2002, again on the Disky label, entitled Neverending Story-Best of Limahl, and including 5 tracks from the original album. The full-length greatest hits first CD was however re-released in 2003.

Famous quotes containing the word record:

Such is the role of poetry. It unveils, in the strict sense of the word. It lays bare, under a light which shakes off torpor, the surprising things which surround us and which our senses record mechanically.
    Jean Cocteau (1889–1963)

We are at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it has been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening.
    Ronald Reagan (b. 1911)
