Collins Kids Organization

The Collins Kids were a group of young chess players invited by John W. Collins to play chess against teams from other countries. The international link began at the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavík, Iceland between Bobby Fischer (USA) and Boris Spassky (USSR). John Collins was a lifelong teacher and friend of Fischer. The Collins Kids would often field teams of young players at the United States Annual Team Championship in Parsippany, NJ.

Howard Kipp Parker has served as a director of the Collins Kids since 1986.

Famous quotes containing the words collins, kids and/or organization:

    But com’st a decent maid,
    In Attic robe array’d,
O chaste, unboastful nymph, to thee I call!
    —William Collins (1721–1759)

Nurturing competence, the food of self-esteem, comes from acknowledging and appreciating the positive contributions your children make. By catching our kids doing things right, we bring out the good that is already there.
    Stephanie Martson (20th century)

... every woman’s organization recognizes that reformers are far more common than feminists, that the passion to look after your fellow man, and especially woman, to do good to her in your way is far more common than the desire to put into every one’s hand the power to look after themselves.
    Crystal Eastman (1881–1928)
