College Mall - Anchor Changes

Anchor Changes

College Mall has undergone a few anchor changes over the years. H. P. Wasson and Company became William H. Block, which was purchased by Ohio based Lazarus department stores. The store at College Mall was converted to a Lazarus in 1987, then closed in 2003. Dick's Sporting Goods was built as a new anchor in its place opening in 2005.

Also in 2003, J.C. Penney left its 2 level store and closed operations. The store was demolished to make way for a new Target anchor in 2004.

L. S. Ayres was not immune to the anchor changes. Opening its store in 1982 it was at the very end of College Mall. It was not long after the purchase by Macy's parent company, Federated Department Stores, the College Mall location along with the rest of the chain were converted over to Macy's.

Famous quotes containing the word anchor:

A man’s real faith is never contained in his creed, nor is his creed an article of his faith. The last is never adopted. This it is that permits him to smile ever, and to live even as bravely as he does. And yet he clings anxiously to his creed, as to a straw, thinking that that does him good service because his sheet anchor does not drag.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It is a far, far better thing to have a firm anchor in nonsense than to put out on the troubled seas of thought.
    John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)
