Climax Locomotive - Survivors

Survivors

Approximately 20 Climax locomotives survive in North America, of which about five are operational. Two survive in Australia 1653 (Hobart—on display), 1694 (Belgrave—under restoration) at the Puffing Billy Railway, and several in New Zealand. The New Zealand Climaxes are No's 522 (Tokomaru—stored), 1203 (Greymouth—stored), 1317 (Te Awamutu—Under static restoration), and 1650 (Pukemiro—stored). Hence 4 of the 7 B class Climax locos delivered to New Zealand have survived. One at the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park in West Virginia is currently being restored by the MSR&LHA. It is expected to be done by 2015. The White Mountain Central Railroad runs one as their Primary locomotive. The Durbin Rocket, in Durbin West Virginia continues to run a Climax and has regular excursions. The corry pennsylvania historical museum in Corry Pennsylvania has a climax on display in its own exhibit room, the train sets on a actual track inside the museum (the track was built to display the locomotive.) The museum is open memorial day to labor sat-sun 2-4, admission is free.

Famous quotes containing the word survivors:

I want to celebrate these elms which have been spared by the plague, these survivors of a once flourishing tribe commemorated by all the Elm Streets in America. But to celebrate them is to be silent about the people who sit and sleep underneath them, the homeless poor who are hauled away by the city like trash, except it has no place to dump them. To speak of one thing is to suppress another.
    Lisel Mueller (b. 1924)

I believe that all the survivors are mad. One time or another their madness will explode. You cannot absorb that much madness and not be influenced by it. That is why the children of survivors are so tragic. I see them in school. They don’t know how to handle their parents. They see that their parents are traumatized: they scream and don’t react normally.
    Elie Wiesel (b. 1928)
