Style of Play
Marchisio's primary strengths are his pace, work ethic, dribbling, precise short passing and shooting. He is also versatile and is able to play out wide in a three- or four-man midfield or in defensive midfield. His preferred and most effective position is in central midfield where he is given the license to freely switch between defence and attack instead of concentrating on a single role. In Italy, he is sometimes classified as a mezzala (attacking central midfielder) rather than a traditional regista (Deep-lying "creative" central midfielder) in the mould of Andrea Pirlo but is neither a pure defensive midfielder nor a playmaker. During the 2011-12 season at club level, he was deployed effectively alongside Pirlo and Chilean international Arturo Vidal due to the fact that he and Vidal were able to interchange quickly between defensive and attacking positions and leave playmaking duties to Pirlo. He also plays a similar role for the national team, partnering Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi alongside Pirlo.

Famous quotes containing the words style of, style and/or play:
“As we approached the log house,... the projecting ends of the logs lapping over each other irregularly several feet at the corners gave it a very rich and picturesque look, far removed from the meanness of weather-boards. It was a very spacious, low building, about eighty feet long, with many large apartments ... a style of architecture not described by Vitruvius, I suspect, though possibly hinted at in the biography of Orpheus.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“To translate, one must have a style of his own, for otherwise the translation will have no rhythm or nuance, which come from the process of artistically thinking through and molding the sentences; they cannot be reconstituted by piecemeal imitation. The problem of translation is to retreat to a simpler tenor of ones own style and creatively adjust this to ones author.”
—Paul Goodman (19111972)
“The play seems out for an almost infinite run.
Dont mind a little thing like the actors fighting.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
