Cirie - Main Sights

Main Sights

  • San Giovanni Battista, known as the Duomo although it is not a cathedral church, dates from the 14th century. It has a four-floor campanile and the interior houses a Madonna del Popolo from Defendente Ferrari's workshop and a Byzantine-school crucifix (12th-13th centuries).
  • Palazzo dei Marchesi D'Oria, built in the 17th century over a pre-existing building. The House of Savoy had an apartment reserved inside.
  • Church of San Giuseppe (17th century).

Famous quotes containing the words main and/or sights:

Many women are reluctant to allow men to enter their domain. They don’t want men to acquire skills in what has traditionally been their area of competence and one of their main sources of self-esteem. So while they complain about the male’s unwillingness to share in domestic duties, they continually push the male out when he moves too confidently into what has previously been their exclusive world.
    Bettina Arndt (20th century)

Television hangs on the questionable theory that whatever happens anywhere should be sensed everywhere. If everyone is going to be able to see everything, in the long run all sights may lose whatever rarity value they once possessed, and it may well turn out that people, being able to see and hear practically everything, will be specially interested in almost nothing.
