Circular 230 - Requirements For Tax Advice

Requirements For Tax Advice

In addition to the above, those giving tax advice must follow certain procedural rules in giving the advice. Tax advice may consist of a "covered opinion," other written tax advice, or oral advice. No standards are provided for oral advice. Written tax advice must not be based on unreasonable factual or legal assumptions or unreasonably rely upon representations of the client or others. It must consider all relevant facts and law.

Famous quotes containing the words tax and/or advice:

Parents are used to being made to feel guilty about...their contribution to the population problem, the school tax burden, and declining test scores. They expect to be blamed by teachers and psychologists, if not by police. And they will be blamed by the children themselves. It is hardy a wonder, then, that they withdraw into what used to be called “permissiveness” but is really neglect.
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)

I’m not in the speechmaking business nowadays. I’m following the advice of an old mountain woman who said: ‘When I walks, I walk slowly. When I sits, I sits loosely. And when I feel a worry coming on, I just go to sleep.’
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
