Christopher Jacobs (politician) - 2007 Erie County Executive's Race

2007 Erie County Executive's Race

Following his withdrawal from the lieutenant governor's race, Secretary Jacobs was rumored to be a frontrunner for the Republican nomination for County Executive of Erie County, New York. The incumbent, Republican Joel Giambra, was retiring after two terms in office. After exploring the race and meeting with possible backers, in late January 2007, Secretary Jacobs announced he would not be running for county executive, saying he wanted to focus on his business interests and service on the Board of Education of Buffalo Public Schools, where he served from that point until resigning in 2011 to seek the office of Erie County Clerk.

Famous quotes containing the words erie, county, executive and/or race:

Human beings will be happier—not when they cure cancer or get to Mars or eliminate racial prejudice or flush Lake Erie but when they find ways to inhabit primitive communities again. That’s my utopia.
    Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (b. 1922)

I could draw Bloom County with my nose and pay my cleaning lady to write it, and I’d bet I wouldn’t lose 10% of my papers over the next twenty years. Such is the nature of comic-strips. Once established, their half-life is usually more than nuclear waste.
    Berkeley Breathed (b. 1957)

She isn’t harassed. She’s busy, and it’s glamorous to be busy. Indeed, the image of the on- the-go working mother is very like the glamorous image of the busy top executive. The scarcity of the working mother’s time seems like the scarcity of the top executive’s time.... The analogy between the busy working mother and the busy top executive obscures the wage gap between them at work, and their different amounts of backstage support at home.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)

No race can prosper till it learns there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem.
    Booker T. Washington (1856–1915)
