Princely Status
By the time Christian's parents' married in 1951, Rainier III was the Prince of Monaco but was unmarried and had no children. Christian states in his biography, that his mother, at this time, was scheming to stage a coup d'état and place him upon the throne. However, once Rainier married Grace Kelly and had children, the possibility of Christian acceding to the throne became remote.
Christian is often referred to as "Baron de Massy", even during the lifetime of his mother, the original grantee of the that title and, since then, without indication that the title was granted hereditarily.

Famous quotes containing the words princely and/or status:
“O thou goddess,
Thou divine Nature, thou thyself thou blazonst
In these two princely boys!”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“[In early adolescence] she becomes acutely aware of herself as a being perceived by others, judged by others, though she herself is the harshest judge, quick to list her physical flaws, quick to undervalue and under-rate herself not only in terms of physical appearance but across a wide range of talents, capacities and even social status, whereas boys of the same age will cite their abilities, their talents and their social status pretty accurately.”
—Terri Apter (20th century)
