Early Life

Hayes' father came to New York from Chicago as a Jesuit, attending seminary; he now works as an advocate for the NYC Department of Health. His mother was a school teacher and now works for the NYC Department of Education.

Hayes was born on February 28, 1979. He attended New York City's Hunter College High School, and then attended Brown University for his undergraduate education, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and worked with Production Workshop, the university's student theatre group.
