As per provisional data of 2011 census, Chiralal urban agglomeration had a population of 162,725, out of which males were 80,215 and females were 82,510. The literacy rate was 77.33 per cent. Chirala municipality had a population of 200,746.

As of 2001 India census, Chirala had a population of 85,455. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Chirala has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 71% and female literacy of 58%. 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
