CHIJ Katong Convent

CHIJ Katong Convent (Abbreviation: CHIJ - KC) is an autonomous all-girls Catholic secondary school in Singapore. The school is one of 11 Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) schools in Singapore. Katong Convent is known for providing its students with a holistic and well-balanced education. The school has produced successful alumni who serve in many facets of society. As an IJ school, Katong Convent is a school where the poorest and weakest in society are given priority, where choices and decisions are made from the viewpoint of the disadvantaged. Katong Convent is committed to the total development of the person in her God-given uniqueness and works for a just society. Katong Convent is proud to have produced notable alumni. They include Professor Dr Chan Heng Chee, former Ambassador to the United States of America, Dr Jacqueline Chin Joon Lin, Singapore's first female Rhodes Scholar, and Noeleen Heyzer: Executive Director, UNIFEM and Nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, 2005. Katong Convent is also known for its niche area English Literature, Speech and Drama. Many Katong Convent girls are active nationally and internationally in the fields of Arts, Law, Medicine, Science & Technology, Culture, Media and Ethics. The school has won the Sustained Achievement Award, a Value-Added Academic award, for having provided value-added education to both the Express and Normal Stream Academic students in Singapore for ten consecutive years (1996–2006). Value-Added awards were awarded by the Ministry of Education in Singapore for Schools that exceeding critical predicted results in students' academic performance, based on their pre-entry results into the School.
