Mixotrophs
Some, usually unicellular, organisms can switch between different metabolic modes, for example between photoautotrophy and chemoheterotrophy. Such mixotrophic organisms may dominate their habitat, due to their capability to use more resources than either photoautotrophic or organoheterotrophic organisms.
