Charged-particle Equilibrium

In nuclear physics the charged-particle equilibrium occurs when the number charged particles, of each type, leaving a volume are equal to the number entering. This equilibrium exists for a volume in a medium when, for a given volume of medium, every charged particle leaving is countered by another charged particle of the same kind and energy entering. This equilibrium value can vary within a medium.

This equilibrium occurs when a material is under irradiation and results in a constant charge.

Famous quotes containing the word equilibrium:

When a person hasn’t in him that which is higher and stronger than all external influences, it is enough for him to catch a good cold in order to lose his equilibrium and begin to see an owl in every bird, to hear a dog’s bark in every sound.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)
