Chadwell Heath - Geography

Geography

It has easy rail access to Liverpool Street Station in the City of London. The London Borough of Havering is to the east. The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham have two local wards named 'Chadwell Heath' and 'Whalebone', and the London Borough of Redbridge has one named Chadwell. Chadwell Heath is therefore split between the two Boroughs and three wards. Many major buildings, such as the local school and former police station (now the popular pub, the Eva Hart) actually lie in the London Borough of Redbridge. Royal Mail includes Chadwell Heath as part of a postcode district (RM6) of the Romford post town, however the town of Romford is in Havering. Until the local government reorganisation of 1965 Chadwell Heath was in the county of Essex. It ceased to be Essex in that year and became part of two London boroughs in the Greater London Council area. It lost Essex from its address in the 1970s. Despite this many residents still fondly refer to the area as 'Essex' rather than multicultural 'East London'.

Famous quotes containing the word geography:

Yet America is a poem in our eyes; its ample geography dazzles the imagination, and it will not wait long for metres.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The totality of our so-called knowledge or beliefs, from the most casual matters of geography and history to the profoundest laws of atomic physics or even of pure mathematics and logic, is a man-made fabric which impinges on experience only along the edges. Or, to change the figure, total science is like a field of force whose boundary conditions are experience.
Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)

The California fever is not likely to take us off.... There is neither romance nor glory in digging for gold after the manner of the pictures in the geography of diamond washing in Brazil.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
