Fighting out of the Rice Street Gym in St Paul, Minnesota, Fort competed in numerous regional and national tournaments, including:
- 2006 American Boxing Classic
- 2006 US National Championships
- 2006 National Golden Gloves
- 2007 National Golden Gloves
- 2008 USA Boxing Minnesota State Championships
- 2008 Senior North Midwest Regional Tournament
- 2008 US Future Stars National Championship
- 2008 Upper Midwest Golden Gloves
- 2008 National Golden Glove Tournament of Champions
During his amateur career Fort fought many elite amateur boxers, including Daniel Jacobs (lost), Javontae Starks (won), Tyler Hultin (won twice), Robert Brandt (won), and others.
