Cephalic Phase - Chain of Events (Nervous System)

Chain of Events (Nervous System)

Thinking of food (ie smell, sight) – Stimulates cerebral cortex – Sends messages to hypothalamus – to the medulla oblongata – to parasympatheic nervous system by the vagus nerve – to stomach (Gastric Glands in walls of fundus and body of stomach) – to secrete gastric juice. (nervous system and hormone system)

a. Food enters stomach – stomach stretches and activates stretch Receptors – sends message to the medulla oblongata (vagus Nerve) and then back – to stomach by the vagus nerve — Result: parietal cell secrete gastric juice.

b. Chemical Stimuli (ie. partially digested proteins, caffeine) – directly activates – G cells (Enteroendocrine Cells) located in the pyloric region of the stomach – to secrete gastrin – Gastrin stimulates – Gastric Glands to secrete gastric Juice.

Famous quotes containing the words chain and/or events:

Nae living man I’ll love again,
Since that my lovely knight is slain.
Wi ae lock of his yellow hair
I’ll chain my heart for evermair.
—Unknown. The Lament of the Border Widow (l. 25–28)

This is certainly not the place for a discourse about what festivals are for. Discussions on this theme were plentiful during that phase of preparation and on the whole were fruitless. My experience is that discussion is fruitless. What sets forth and demonstrates is the sight of events in action, is living through these events and understanding them.
    Doris Lessing (b. 1919)
