Central Michigan Life

Central Michigan Life is Central Michigan University's student newspaper. It is almost entirely independent from the university. Only the salaries of the adviser and executive secretary are paid through CMU; all other expenses are covered by CM Life's own advertising revenue.

The paper is published and distributed three times a week during the spring and fall semesters. During the summer, the paper is published once a week. It is available in newsprint and online, posting news as it happens. Since 2009, one issue a month has included a color supplement containing 'the best of Central Michigan', featuring stills from student-produced videos.

CM Life's circulation is currently 13,500, and the paper is distributed by Mid-Michigan Industries at various newsstands in CMU's academic buildings and residence halls, as well as several businesses within the Mount Pleasant community.

CM Life was named one of the top three non-daily newspapers in the nation for 2007 by the Society of Professional Journalists. It also was named the best college newspaper in Division I in Michigan. CM Life has been named an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Finalist for five of the last seven years, and won the Pacemaker three times in that span. It also was a finalist for the first time for an online Pacemaker in 2010. While a student at CMU, cartoonist Drew Sheneman published cartoons in CM Life, winning two awards for his work during that time.

Famous quotes containing the words central and/or life:

Friends serve central functions for children that parents do not, and they play a critical role in shaping children’s social skills and their sense of identity. . . . The difference between a child with close friendships and a child who wants to make friends but is unable to can be the difference between a child who is happy and a child who is distressed in one large area of life.
    Zick Rubin (20th century)

The more highly public life is organized the lower does its morality sink.
