Cat Mandu - Political Career

Political Career

In 1999, the OMRLP had to select a new leader following the death of the party's founder, Screaming Lord Sutch. Alan "Howling Laud" Hope (who was then the party's chairman and deputy leader) and Cat Mandu were the only two candidates in the party leadership election. The vote was a tie, with Hope and Cat Mandu receiving 125 votes each. Hope, as the party chairman, had the casting vote, and decided that he and Cat Mandu should serve as joint leaders. Cat Mandu served in this role until his death as a result of a traffic accident in July 2002. Hope then became the party's sole leader.

Following Cat Mandu's death, the party proposed that there should be cat-crossings at all major roads.

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or career:

To be revolutionary is to be original, to know where we came from, to validate what is ours and help it to flourish, the best of what is ours, of our beginnings, our principles, and to leave behind what no longer serves us.
Ines Hernandez, U.S. Chicana political activist. As quoted in What Is Found There, ch. 28, by Adrienne Rich (1993)

It is a great many years since at the outset of my career I had to think seriously what life had to offer that was worth having. I came to the conclusion that the chief good for me was freedom to learn, think, and say what I pleased, when I pleased. I have acted on that conviction... and though strongly, and perhaps wisely, warned that I should probably come to grief, I am entirely satisfied with the results of the line of action I have adopted.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
