Carlos Uresti

Carlos Ismael "Charlie" Uresti (born September 12, 1963) is a prominent San Antonio attorney practicing throughout the State of Texas in the areas of Family Law, Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation, Personal Injury and Wrongful Death. As a Democrat, he is a member of the Texas State Senate representing Senate District 19. Texas Senate District 19 is the largest geographical senatorial district in the Texas Senate.

Uresti previously represented portions of Bexar County and the City of San Antonio in District 118 in the Texas House of Representatives from 1997 to 2006. He is considered a statewide leader in the fight to prevent child abuse and neglect, and was named Legislator of the Year five times.

He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is licensed to practice in the United States District Courts for the Western District of Texas. Uresti is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas and has been named a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly Magazine. At the San Antonio Bar Association Law Day Luncheon held on May 7, 2010 Carlos Uresti was named "Attorney Mentor of the Year" by the San Antonio Young Lawyer's Association.

Uresti, the youngest of eight children, was born in Bexar County, Texas, raised in San Antonio and graduated from McCollum High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve at age eighteen, and after earning a bachelor of arts degree in political science from St. Mary's University was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He served four years of active duty as a combat engineer and advanced to the rank of captain and earned the Navy Commendation Medal. In 1992, Uresti graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law and maintains a private legal practice in San Antonio. He is also a senior vice president of Independence Title company.

As a member of the Texas House, Uresti was instrumental in helping to bring the Toyota facility to the Southside of San Antonio.

Uresti has two sons, Michael, a 2005 graduate of Texas A&M University, and Carlos, Jr., who is a 2011 Texas A&M University-San Antonio graduate and is also a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

Senator Uresti is the grandfather of Benjamin Uresti.

Uresti is the younger brother of Albert Uresti, who ran for U.S. Congress in November 2006.
