Captain Shreve High School

Captain Shreve High School (CSHS) is one of the largest high schools in Shreveport, Louisiana. The school is a three-story circular building built in the round. The school gained national attention when Captain Shreve alum and author Will Clarke wrote about his high school experience in the essay "How to Kill a Boy that Nobody Likes". The story, published in Simon & Schuster's anthology When I Was a Loser, was banned by a Rhode Island school district in 2007. Captain Shreve was also made somewhat famous in the 80s for having actress Valerie Bertinelli perform at a talent show when two of her brothers attended school there. In 1973, Captain Shreve won the AAAA State Championship in football.

Famous quotes containing the words high school, captain, high and/or school:

    The way to go to the circus, however, is with someone who has seen perhaps one theatrical performance before in his life and that in the High School hall.... The scales of sophistication are struck from your eyes and you see in the circus a gathering of men and women who are able to do things as a matter of course which you couldn’t do if your life depended on it.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

    The night was thick and hazy
    When the “Piccadilly Daisy”
    Carried down the crew and captain in the sea;
    And I think the water downed ‘em;
    For they never, never found ‘em,
    And I know they didn’t come ashore with me.
    Charles Edward Carryl (1841–1920)

    Manhattan. Sometimes from beyond the skyscrapers, across the hundreds of thousands of high walls, the cry of a tugboat finds you in your insomnia in the middle of the night, and you remember that this desert of iron and cement is an island.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

    What a wise and good parent will desire for his own children a nation must desire for all children.
