Canada's Food Guide - Food Groups

Food Groups

Canada's Food Guide has four food groups. These include:

  • Vegetables and fruit
  • Grain products
  • Milk and alternatives
  • Meat and alternatives

Any foods not accurately described by these food groups are deemed "other" and are advised to be consumed in moderation.

Famous quotes containing the words food and/or groups:

At the violet hour, the evening hour that strives
Homeward, and brings the sailor home from sea,
The typist home at teatime, clears her breakfast, lights
Her stove, and lays out food in tins.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

Belonging to a group can provide the child with a variety of resources that an individual friendship often cannot—a sense of collective participation, experience with organizational roles, and group support in the enterprise of growing up. Groups also pose for the child some of the most acute problems of social life—of inclusion and exclusion, conformity and independence.
    Zick Rubin (20th century)
