California Air National Guard

California Air National Guard

The California Air National Guard (CA ANG) is the air force militia of the U.S. State of California. It is, along with the California Army National Guard, an element of the California National Guard.

As state militia units, the units in the California Air National Guard are not in the normal United States Air Force chain of command. They are under the jurisdiction of the California Military Department unless they are federalized by order of the President of the United States. The California Air National Guard is headquartered in Sacramento, and its commander is currently Brigadier General Jon K. Kelk.

Famous quotes containing the words california, air, national and/or guard:

The Indian remarked as before, “Must have hard wood to cook moose-meat,” as if that were a maxim, and proceeded to get it. My companion cooked some in California fashion, winding a long string of the meat round a stick and slowly turning it in his hand before the fire. It was very good. But the Indian, not approving of the mode, or because he was not allowed to cook it his own way, would not taste it.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Hamlet. The air bites shrewdly, it is very cold.
Horatio. It is a nipping and an eager air.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

What do we mean by patriotism in the context of our times? I venture to suggest that what we mean is a sense of national responsibility ... a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.
    Adlai Stevenson (1900–1965)

Standing navies, as well as standing armies, serve to keep alive the spirit of war even in the meek heart of peace. In its very embers and smoulderings, they nourish that fatal fire, and half-pay officers, as the priests of Mars, yet guard the temple, though no god be there.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
