Calgary Public Library

The Calgary Public Library is a distributed library system featuring 18 branch locations including the Central Library. It is the second most used system in Canada (after the Toronto Public Library) and the sixth most used library system in North America. This is despite the fact that the Calgary Public Library is only 21st in per capita funding in the country, receiving as little as half the money of other Canadian public libraries.

Famous quotes containing the words public and/or library:

    I’ll sing you a new ballad, and I’ll warrant it first-rate,
    Of the days of that old gentleman who had that old estate;
    When they spent the public money at a bountiful old rate
    On ev’ry mistress, pimp, and scamp, at ev’ry noble gate,
    In the fine old English Tory times;
    Charles Dickens (1812–1890)

    That a famous library has been cursed by a woman is a matter of complete indifference to a famous library. Venerable and calm, with all its treasures safe locked within its breast, it sleeps complacently and will, so far as I am concerned, so sleep forever. Never will I wake these echoes, never will I ask for that hospitality again ...
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
