Bubba Phillips

John Melvin "Bubba" Phillips (February 24, 1928 – June 22, 1993) was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) player from Macon, Mississippi. A third baseman, he played on three American League (AL) teams in 10 seasons, from 1955 through 1964. In 1961, he led the American League with 188 putouts as third baseman and in 1963, he led the American League with 10 sacrifice flies. Phillips was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1972.
