The area is around 45 km away from Bengaluru International Airport and 15 km away from the Bangalore City Railway station. BTM Layouts' proximity to Outer Ring Road, Bangalore, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Bannerghatta Road, J P Nagar and Jayanagar makes it one of the popular residential and commercial places in Bangalore. BTM Layout 1st Stage and 2nd Stage is separated by the Outer ring road. BTM Layout is noted for its cafés, boutiques, music venues,etc. and has a bohemian reputation. Its proximity to student residences and the young working people and the variety of restaurants makes it a popular venue as an alternative to the city centre.
Recently BTM Layout came into light, when a 23-year-old woman was hacked to death near 7th Main Circle on May 29,2012 at around 6 in the evening by bike-borne assailants, despite of the fact that at that time, it is one of the busiest crossing in BTM Layout. This news created fear in the residents, especially young girls and women, and raised several questions on the reliability of Bangalore police.
