BT Home Hub

The BT Home Hub is a family of wireless residential gateway routers distributed by BT. The latest versions of the Home Hub are based on the Wi-Fi 802.11n standard, and are also backward compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g. All models of the Home Hub prior to the Home Hub 3.0 support VoIP Internet calls via BT’s Broadband Talk service and are compatible with existing DECT handsets. This was significant as it marked BT’s desire to depart from circuit-switched voice telephony services towards packetised telephony products. However, the Home Hub 3.0 does not come with this capability.

The Home Hub works with the existing BT Fusion service and works with the BT Vision video on demand service. The BT Home Hub 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 devices connect to the Internet using a standard ADSL connection. The BT Home Hub v3.0 models support PPPoA for ADSL and PPPoE for VDSL2, in conjunction with an Openreach-provided VDSL2 modem to support BT’s FTTC/FTTP network (BT Infinity). The firmwares for the BT Home Hub models are periodically revised. It is of note that the BT Home Hub has been criticised for its security and possible privacy flaws.

Famous quotes containing the words home and/or hub:

Many a man who thinks to found a home discovers that he has merely opened a tavern for his friends.
    Norman Douglas (1868–1952)

When I was growing up I used to think that the best thing about coming from Des Moines was that it meant you didn’t come from anywhere else in Iowa. By Iowa standards, Des Moines is a mecca of cosmopolitanism, a dynamic hub of wealth and education, where people wear three-piece suits and dark socks, often simultaneously.
    Bill Bryson (b. 1951)
