Brothers of The Sacred Heart

The Brothers of the Sacred Heart are a Catholic religious congregation founded in 1821 by the Reverend André Coindre (1787-1826). Its Constitutions were modeled upon those of the Jesuits, while its Rule of Life was based upon the Rule of Saint Augustine. Its members bind themselves for life by simple vows of religion. There are only a few priests in the Congregation, the vast majority of its members being lay Brothers, who live in community in accordance with the Congregation's Rule of Life. The objective purpose of the Congregation has evolved slightly over the years - though its fundamental mission remains centred on the education of the young: in asylums, parochial and select schools, and commercial colleges.

Famous quotes containing the words brothers, sacred and/or heart:

    O sinewy silver biplane, nudging the wind’s withers!
    There, from Kill Devils Hill at Kitty Hawk
    Two brothers in their twinship left the dune;
    Warping the gale, the Wright wind wrestlers veered
    Capeward, then blading the wind’s flank, banked and spun.
    Hart Crane (1899–1932)

    They reckon ill who leave me out;
    When me they fly, I am the wings;
    I am the doubter and the doubt,
    And I the hymn the Brahmin sings.

    The strong gods pine for my abode,
    And pine in vain the sacred Seven;
    But thou, meek lover of the good!
    Find me, and turn thy back on heaven.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    No head knows where its rest is
    Or may lie down with reason
    When war’s usurping claws
    Shall take heart escheat....
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)
