Bradypterus - Species

Species

This genus is in need of revision. Victorin's Scrub-warbler, "Bradypterus" victorini, does not belong into that genus. In fact, it seems to belong into a distinct family not even closely related to Bradypterus, and including such birds as the crombecs (Sylvietta) and longbills (Macrosphenus). A new genus would need to be established for Victorin's Scrub-warbler, but this has not happened yet. The Sri Lanka Bush Warbler is sometimes placed in this genus but is now placed in its own, montotypic genus Elaphrornis.

Others, like the Chestnut-backed Bush Warbler and the Chinese Bush Warbler, appear to belong in Locustella.

Famous quotes containing the word species:

A man can go from being a lover to being a stranger in three moves flat ... but a woman under the guise of friendship will engage in acts of duplicity which come to light very much later. There are different species of self-justification.
    Anita Brookner (b. 1938)

If there is a species which is more maltreated than children, then it must be their toys, which they handle in an incredibly off-hand manner.... Toys are thus the end point in that long chain in which all the conditions of despotic high-handedness are in play which enchain beings one to another, from one species to another—cruel divinities to their sacrificial victims, from masters to slaves, from adults to children, and from children to their objects.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

Our species successfully raised children for tens of thousands of years before the first person wrote down the word “psychology.” The fundamental skills needed to be a parent are within us. All we’re really doing is fine-tuning a process that’s already remarkably successful.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
