In the village there is a Co-operative supermarket, which is located amongst a number of shops including a butcher, a building society agency, an insurance broker, an independent financial adviser, an estate agent, a pet shop, several hairdressers, a Post Office, library, florist, hardware shop and fishing tackle shop.
By way of food and drink there are four public houses, two Indian restaurants, three takeaways and a cafe.
The local football team Borrowash Victoria A.F.C. play in the East Midlands Counties Football League, but their home ground, namely the Watkinson Construction Bowl, is in the neighbouring Derby suburb of Spondon. The Watkinson Construction Bowl is situated next door to Graham Street Prims, who have a fierce rivalry with each other, and are currently competing in the same league. Other sporting affiliations include Ockbrook and Borrowash Lawn Tennis Club.
