In 1566 (16th century) Merlin hid his spell book, The Book of Eternity, from his half-brother the demon Etrigan beneath an ancient Roman temple in Turkey. It remained there until 1999 (20th century). After an earthquake in Ankara, Turkey while working for the 'Red Crescent', Doctor Selma Tolon (Janissary) discovered a collapsed underground section of the temple ruins, wherein she found the spell book.
In the JLA/Avengers crossover, the Book of Eternity was one of the 12 items of power searched for by the heroes.
