Boneyard (station)

Ozzy's Boneyard (formerly The Boneyard) is a channel featuring a classic-based hard rock format on Sirius XM Radio channel 38 (previously XM 53, starting on January 15, 2009). Prior to the Sirius-XM merger, it was XM channel 41, which became Hair Nation.

Boneyard was the home of The Rock of Jericho, hosted by WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, until its cancellation in December 2006. Artists heard on Boneyard include Deep Purple, Metallica, KISS, AC/DC, Rush, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Megadeth. Originally carrying an active rock format, most of the newer rock (mostly alternative-based hard rock artists) went to its sister Squizz channel (which ceased operations on November 12, 2008 in favour of Octane) back in 2002. New music from established "Bone Yard bands" can be heard on this channel during "Breaking Bone" segments. Alternative-based active rock music, mostly from 2000s artists, can only be found on its sister Octane channel.

With the commingling of channels due to the Sirius/XM merger, Boneyard appeared to have absorbed the Sirius heavy classic rock channel Buzzsaw, having supplanted Buzzsaw's spot on Sirius channel 19 and Dish Network channel 6019. However, Sirius XM made Sirius 19 AC/DC radio for a limited run engagement through January 2009, putting The Boneyard (along with Sirius's The Strobe and BackSpin) on hiatus from November 12, 2008 until January 15, 2009. No announcement had been made regarding the specific format of the new Boneyard or its host lineup. As of February 9, 2010, it was heard on DirecTV channel 830, but all of Sirius XM programming was dropped in favor of SonicTap.

When the new Boneyard launched, most of the glam metal bands were dropped, with the channel sounding more like the former Sirius channel BuzzSaw. Glam metal bands can still be found on its sister station Hair Nation on channel 39.
