Bobby Pendragon - Description

Description

Robert Pendragon (preferably called Bobby) is the main character of the The Pendragon Adventure. He is a fourteen-year-old boy in the first book and is a suburban basketball star living in the fictional suburb of Stony Brook, Connecticut, at the beginning of the series. He is said to have brown hair and brown eyes and to be, near the end of the series, only a little over 6' tall. He is interested in Courtney. He likes her a lot and she is his romantic interest throughout the series, though it can be assumed that, if he had continued on as a traveler rather than getting a second chance at life (in the last book), they would have remained friends, as Bobby develops intense feelings for Loor, the traveler from Zadaa, throughout the series. Bobby had even stated himself that they had grown into two different people as a result of his status as lead traveler and had he remained on Second Earth, their relationship, more than likely, would have flourished.

The book series order is as follows: Book 1: The Merchant of Death, Traveler: Alder Book 2: The Lost City of Faar, Traveler: Vo Spader Book 3: The Never War, Traveler: Vincent "Gunny" Van Dyke Book 4: The Reality Bug, Traveler: Aja Killian Book 5: Black Water, Traveler: Kasha Book 6: The Rivers of Zadaa, Traveler: Loor Book 7: The Quillan Games, Traveler: Nevva Winter Book 8: The Pilgrams of Rayne, Traveler: Siry Remudi Book 9: Raven Rise,Traveler: Alexander Naymeer Book 10: The Soldiers of Halla, Traveler: Patrick Mac

More books by the author that go along with the series are: Book One of the Travelers, Book Two of the Travelers, Book Three of the Travelers, The Guide to the Territories of Halla, The Merchant of Death Graphic Novel

Bobby ages throughout the series; he turns fifteen in The Never War, sixteen in Black Water, seventeen in The Quillian Games and eighteen in The Pilgrims of Rayne. Whether MacHale deliberately created this transition is unknown. Bobby's emotional maturity and moral sense increase in each book. He also becomes better at strategizing, compromising, predicting and knowing the enemy, and thinking wisely and Bobby is seen leading or occupying a key position in several wars throughout the series.

To spoil the books: Bobby is the lead traveler who has battled against Saint Dane on countless occasions with many help from other travelers. He has even killed Saint Dane once, only to see him reform again, stating that it was pointless to try to kill him. Bobby has befriended almost every traveler of his generation, and indeed every traveler he has met (with the exception of Saint Dane and Nevva Winter) and each of them has helped him in the battle for the territory. When Bobby was first taken from his home on the quest to save Denduron, he was confused and scared, with almost no knowledge of travelers, leaving him with many questions in the books, such as why he was chosen to be the lead traveler, or who made the flumes. Though, later development of Bobby shows his vast knowledge of Halla. He is not in fact human but an artificial being created to destroy Saint Dane. After he destroys Saint Dane, Bobby and the other travelers are allowed to live the life they would have had if they weren't travelers. We are shown Bobby and Courtney Chetwynde in a scene mirroring their first scene in the series. However, it is shown that rather than the young teens as before, this Bobby and Courtney are much older, Bobby himself being confined to a hospital bed. They kiss as a mysterious stranger (Press Tilton) barges into Bobby's hospital room and gives Bobby a box containing a "story". A good one. Told in thirty-seven chapters." Press states he has nine more journals to deliver. He also leaves a box of French fries for the two, the fries being reminiscent of their youth. Courtney and Bobby go to different colleges and lead separate lives for several years, Bobby becoming a successful writer, Courtney becoming a TV news producer. They eventually reunite in California - Bobby jumping at the chance at appearing in a charity event Courtney would do a special on. Two years pass and they marry.

Famous quotes containing the word description:

An intentional object is given by a word or a phrase which gives a description under which.
Gertrude Elizabeth Margaret Anscombe (b. 1919)

I was here first introduced to Joe.... He was a good-looking Indian, twenty-four years old, apparently of unmixed blood, short and stout, with a broad face and reddish complexion, and eyes, methinks, narrower and more turned up at the outer corners than ours, answering to the description of his race. Besides his underclothing, he wore a red flannel shirt, woolen pants, and a black Kossuth hat, the ordinary dress of the lumberman, and, to a considerable extent, of the Penobscot Indian.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

God damnit, why must all those journalists be such sticklers for detail? Why, they’d hold you to an accurate description of the first time you ever made love, expecting you to remember the color of the room and the shape of the windows.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
